Models N1–N4.

All Norwegian driving licences have preprinted text in ‘bokmål’ or in ‘nynorsk’. The two forms  of language have equal status. The words ‘førerkort’ and ‘Norge’ show that the text is in ‘bokmål’; ‘førarkort’  and ‘Noreg’ indicate the form of ‘nynorsk’.
 2. Model N1.
If the licence was valid on 2 April 1982, this model is valid until the holder’s 100th birthday, ir- respective of the date of expiry recorded on the licence document. This only applies if the initial validity of  the document was 10 years.
Models N1–N4.
 In case the holder of such a licence is older than 70 years, he has to carry a medical certificate  with him. The certificate has to be renewed after one, two, three, four or five years.
 Model N1.
If any restrictive entry had been recorded on this driving licence model, the licence was exempt  from the regulation on lifelong validity for models valid on 2 April 1982. In case of doubts because of entries  on the document, the accompanying translation for the document or Norwegian issuing authorities should  be consulted.
Model N2.
The stamp with the restricting text is on the reverse side of the licence. Model N2. Driving licences of category B+E, which were first issued before 1 April 1979 and were subse- quently exchanged for model N2, entitle the holder to drive category A1 in addition.
Models N2, N3.
The entitlement to drive C1 (and C1E) vehicles becomes void if the holder does not exchange  the licence for model N4 prior to 1 January 2002. Model N3. If the following entitlement is stamped on the reverse side of the driving licence: ‘Gjelder også bil  med tillatt totalvekt ikke over 7 500 kg og høyst 8 passasjerplasser’ (Valid for motor car with maximum au- thorised weight less than 7 500 kilograms and maximum eight passenger seats), the holder is additionally  entitled to drive C1 vehicles. To keep this entitlement, he has to exchange his licence for model N4 prior to 1  January 2002.

 Model N3.

Driving licences of category BE, which were first issued before 1 April 1979, were subsequently  exchanged for model N3 and which bear the following stamp: ‘Gjelder også for: — lett motorsykkel — bil som har tillatt totalvekt mindre enn 7 500 kg og høyst 8 passasjer- plasser’ entitle the holder to drive category A1 in addition. Driving licences of category BE, which were obtained between 1 April 1979 and 30 September 1992, which  were subsequently exchanged for model N3 and which bear the following stamp: ‘Gjelder også bil med tillatt totalvekt ikke over 7500 kg og høyst 8 passasjerplasser’ entitle the holder to drive category A1 in addition. This entitlement may only be maintained if the holder exchanges his licence for model N4 before 1 January  2002. Model N3.
The categories C1, C1E, D1 and D1E were introduced on 1 January 1997. D1 and D1E replaced D2  and D2E as of this date. N: Description and security features
Model N1. Description:
 Dark green cover, model folded in format A 7, six pages. The word ‘Førerkort’ or ‘Førarkort’ is printed on  the front cover. Security features: No special security features. Model N2. Description: Bright pink paper model encased in clear plastic, two pages. Security features: Coloured watermark photographic paper, encased in clear plastic extending beyond all edges.  Stamp overlapping photo, signature of official and seal embossed in laminate. Model N3. Description: Bright pink and grey paper model encased in clear plastic, two pages. Security features: Coloured watermark photographic paper, encased in clear plastic extending beyond all edges.  Hologram seal overlapping stamp, both overlapping photo, signature of official and seal embossed in laminate. 
 Model N4. Security features:
 *Guilloche (security pattern which is also visible through the picture) *Micro text *UV-printing (visible only in ultraviolet light) *Laser hologram containing the distinguishing sign for Norway and the holder’s social security number (in corre- spondence with position 4 d on the front page) *Bar code where the last 11 digits contain the licence number (in correspondence with position 5 on the front page)
